Discussion about "strategic surrender" and peace by any means in #Ukraine are going on since the beginning of the war. Was pushed to write a small text on this horrible example of #pacifism after listening to german radio...
Finland supports Ukrainian higher education students and researchers.
Ukrainian students will be given opportunities to start or continue their studies. Researchers will be offered the opportunity to continue their research work in Finland.
Okay quite a few are interested, so I posted random thoughts here: https://gist.github.com/BigZaphod/6a2e3f1a11a1b337d8fbcec9ae0d9669
I didn't want to spend the time to turn it all into a "proper" blog post as I'm not exactly making any strong arguments, really. This is just more like a list of observations and a few stray thoughts about ideas that I'm sure aren't unique or new. 🙂
Huge protests appeared wherever a plant or a storage of radioactive material was planned, Brokdorf, Gorleben, just to name two.
Germany is very densely populated in most areas. There are three plants left, which will be shut down soon. Projecting new ones will take years and certainly cause heavy protests, also not solve existing problems. Gas is needed mostly for heating, so the transition has to happen here. You see, there is a bunch of reasons not to engage with nuclear power.
The dependency on russian gas has been widely discussed and criticized for years. Germany was once leading with solar energy, but sadly fell back during Ms. Merkels government. Also Nordstream 2 was heavily criticized especially by the Green party. The new government has to reach a fast transition now, not easy.
Germany has rejected atom power since the 70s, this has been one of the reasons for the success of the Green party. It's very different from France, where the don't see problems.

My favorite free, open source, Mastodon iOS app is Metatext. It's no longer updated but supports alt text and still works very well. https://metabolist.org/
It's good to take breaks or pace yourself in your intake of content. Set boundaries that feel right for you, and reach out to moderators if you need help (don't forget to thank them!).
Mastodon DMs (Direct Messages) are not stored in a end-to-end encrypted fashion so if you need to have a conversation where you need to ensure a higher level of security, please move the conversation to an actual end-to-end messaging system like Signal.
Saying it again for new users: The official Mastodon apps kinda suck. They don't have the local/federated timelines that you'll see on Mastodon.lol itself so it might be harder to discover users and posts at first.
There's a bunch of third party apps which I recommend you try and see what feels best for you!
Hi! mastodon.social is being slow right now, as far as I can tell because there's twice as many people using it at the same time as ever have; I'm working on making it go fast again, but in the meantime, do remember to invite people to joinmastodon.org instead of directly to mastodon.social. People don't have to be on the same server to follow you! Thanks!
